If you take your pet to a qualified dog grooming service center which is a good option it can at times be extremely costly. It is not something which cannot be done at home i.e., it is possible only if you have the time as well as the equipment. The foremost thing is that you should be exceptionally patient with your dog throughout the dog grooming session and remember to reward him once it is completed so that you don’t face any trouble the next time around.

Dog grooming is significant for all pets but more for dogs with lots of hair. Dogs like German Shepherds boast double coat moreover experience lots of hair fall and therefore must be groomed frequently. A few of the significant parts of the body that have to be cleaned and groomed include the skin and ears also it is a must to clip the nails for dogs.

Cleaning the ears of dogs is an integral part of dog grooming because of the fact that they get a lot of infections through their ears. Dogs with droopy ears are highly susceptible to different types of ear problems and infections caused by ear mites, waxy ears, and fungus. You need to check the ears of your dog once every week and clean them as well. Another important part of dog grooming is clipping nails by using a nail trimmer like Little Pals Nail Trimmer and this is mostly done for dogs, as their nails can grow unusually big. Although they will never hurt you with their nails but are quite capable of scratching you while playing. You need to clip nails once every 3 weeks.

The one thing that most pets hate and dogs even more is bathing. Except for the Retrievers almost all dogs hate taking a bath. But bathing is also an important part of dog grooming. Before you give your pet a nice bath, ensure that you have the necessary pet supplies like shampoo, conditioner etc.

A dog harness is a vital piece of equipment for many dogs around the world. It provides a safe way to secure your dog to leash, without having to use a collar. You might be asking yourself whats wrong with using a collar. Well, collars are a fine for some, but many dogs have a serious problem of choking when they are wearing one. This is because anytime a dog tries to run, pull, or tug while their collar is attached to a leash, they will feel the force of the pull on their neck. Unfortunately, this force can cause neck pain, trachea damage, breathing issues, and gagging.

Shopping for a dog harness is very easy; on the other hand there are a few things you have to be definite to look for. Another important feature to look for is how the harness attaches. Some types may have one latch, others may have two, or it might be a step in harness, without any latches. Just try and find one that looks like it will be the most comfortable and best fit for your dog, or if you just don’t want to mess with any latches, get a step in harness.

Even though nearly all dogs take pleasure in wearing a harness like Patriotic Paws Dog Harness, a few can be doubtful initially. If your dog doesn’t like their harness, try offering them a treat. It must open up their view on harnesses right away!

Crate Training is a method that is commonly used to house train dogs. A crate (cage) is normally constructed from plastic or metal and comes in a wide range of sizes to fit all dog breeds. Crate training dogs is considered to have positive results for both the dog and its master.

The reason crate training works so well is that most dogs dont use their sleeping area as a toilet. Given that in most cases the crate will serve as a sleeping area for your dog, the dog learns how to resist going to the toilet until they are out of the crate.

When crate training dogs (or puppies) the crate is meant to replicate the puppies den. The puppy will usually stay in the crate at all times except for feeding and supervised play times. When the puppy is let free from the crate it should be taken to the toilet area immediately.

When choosing a crate make sure its big enough for your dog to comfortably move around in. A good typical crate length is 1.5 times the length of the dog with at least a couple of inches of head room. If the crate is too long the puppy may use the extra space as a bathroom. In the case that your crate is too big for you dog, try blocking of one end of the crate. We recommend plastic crates with wire doors. These are the easiest to clean and make it very easy to transport your dog.

During crate training, the puppies toilet breaks must be at regular times throughout the day so that accidental urination and defecation is avoided. As puppies get older they naturally become better at holding there urges to go to the toilet.

The crate should not be associated with anything negative ” it needs to be a place your puppy wants to be. You can do this by feeding your puppy close to the crate and eventually inside the crate. Also make your puppies crate more homely by padding it with newspaper and putting a couple of your pups favourite toys inside. Rewards for good behaviour can be given inside the crate to further reinforce that its a nice place to be.

If you are not in the house its best not to leave your dog locked inside its crate as this might make it feel anxious and afraid. Even if you are in the house its best to let your dog out of the crate once in a while (even if only for a couple of minutes) to ensure your puppy doesnt see the crate as some form of prison.

Crates can be very convenient for transporting your dog or puppy. Crates are useful when travelling in the car with your dog and are required for all air travel.

While crate training dogs and puppies has been proven to be a very effective way of training dogs, it is not universally accepted with some experts claiming that dogs and puppies become too attached to the crate after being locked inside it for a long period of time.

Below is a link that has much more information about how to train dogs and puppys in a number of situations, as well as more information about crate training.

Your tutoring must install you and your family as the “alpha” status in the pack. That commits your canine at the bottom of the pack hierarchy. Once the family determines superiority over the canine, problems affiliated to authority may often be fixed. This is why the socialization and dog behavior modification are therefore important.

7 Tips for Dog Behavior Modification

1. Give goodies. Stress to yourself that your canine can have whatever he wishes if he is groomed to work for it. Decidedly, it is imperative to reward any exemplary, unplanned dog behavior modification. Keep on your toes! Dogs will shock you!

2. Oversee the food supply. As food is such a highly regarded commodity, it is important to make your canine realize you manage this treasured resource.

3. Restrict cuddling. Patting, and the compliance that goes with it, is a convincing reward for most dogs and as such should be rationed in the very way as food.

4. Distribute appreciation. Praise may be another greatly appreciated asset for which alpha dogs should be forced to work. Approving a canine repeatedly weakens the desirability of this otherwise much valued acknowledgment.

5. Utilize toys as rewards. The provision of toys is a privilege for which dominant dogs have to work.

6. Restrict sports. Games are fun, and as such, must be conserved. You have to introduce all activities and you determine when they are done.

7. Let your dog gain freedom. Liberty is one of life’s privileges and with privilege comes the need for social responsibility and respect.

Dog behavior modification is important when canines utilize aggression to proclaim bad behavior. Don’t forget that YOU ARE THE TOP DOG…YOU DETERMINE what happens.

If you are a pet owner and your pet is either a cat or a dog you probably already know these things. Most of the time pet owners tend to forget how important these things are so I am here to remind you.

* Exercise amount: Whether you have a cat or a dog it is vitally important that you make sure that it gets the right about of physical activity. Larger pets will require more exercise than smaller pets.

* Way to exercise: If your cat is a stay at home cat you will need to take it out into nature. If you live in a big city you must take it for daily walks. All dogs (even the smaller ones) will need at least one daily walk and for larger breeds you need two or three walks a day of at least 30 minutes.

*Excess for is bad: Be sure not to overfeed your pet. Most cats and smaller dogs will only eat when they are hungry will many larger breed dogs will eat whatever you put in front of them and they can’t stop until the food is gone.

* Vitamins and minerals: Be sure to ask your VET what she recommends that you purchase for your pet. Some pet foods are better than others and you’ll most likely find that you can benefit from finding breed specific products.

* Caring: Be sure to express that you care for you pet via both words, tonality and physical gestures. Pets are no different than humans and if they don’t receive love they’ll become sad and lose the will to keep on living.

* Get pet insurance: Accidents do happen and if you have had a pet for a while you probably know that paying for medical bills, surgery and even the regular VET visits will cost you a small fortune. Pet insurance will in most cases take care of a larger part of that expenditure.

* Plan: Make sure you use a schedule for all major appointments. Be sure to note the regular VET check-ups and that your pet gets any medication or vaccines that it’ll need. Small things like these will add up in the long run.

The day you bring your brand new puppy into your home for the first time is a joyous one; but it can also cause a lot of stress, especially if this is the first time that you?ve had a dog. You?ll need to learn many things in order to be a good caretaker of your new dog.

The first thing you need to do is to ensure that your new pet feels loved and secure in their new home. Talk to your dog in a gentle tone of voice and be sure not to yell at them, even when they do something you don?t like. Yelling at your dog can make them afraid of you and leave them with mental scars; they may never look at you quite the same again! As soon as you can after bringing home your new puppy, you should go to dog training classes.

There are a lot of good reasons to train your dog; and it?s not only your new puppy that needs some training ? you have a lot to learn too! You have to learn all about how to care for your new dog, as well as what not to do with your puppy.

Training a dog will become obvious to you when you get your puppy inside the house. It will be filled with energy and might run around and brake things, pee on the floor and chew its way through anything.

You?ll learn a lot of useful things in dog training classes, such as which commands are the most effective and just as importantly, what tone of voice to use when giving your dog a command. You?ll need to learn these things and practice them regularly ? this will make your new dog a better behaved member of the family and while some puppy damage is almost inevitable, can prevent much of the damage your new dog may cause.

You?ll need to walk your dog once or twice every day. You?ll need to teach your dog to walk without having to tug on their leash; your dog will need to learn to take direction in order to accomplish this.

Not knowing how to control your dog when you are out for a walk can lead to disaster. It?s only natural for your dog to want to chase squirrels and other small animals ? but they will run into the street after them, which can be catastrophic.

Traffic accidents are one of the major killers of especially dogs and often times it are because the owner can’t control the dog with words and commands. That is why the training part is so vitally important in order to keep your dog from harm.

Of the feline worms feline roundworm and feline tapeworm are probably the most common, so it’s good to know a little about them if you have a cat. Knowledge can help with both prevention and treatment of these nasty intestinal parasites.

Roundworm in Cats This may not sound too pleasant but adult roundworms look a bit like cooked spaghetti. It’s easy to see how the name started. Mature roundworms are usually about 3-4 inches in length, although some can get to 7 inches in length. You may see these worms in the vomit or feces of an infected cat, but not seeing them doesn’t mean your cat doesn’t have them. To know for sure if your cat has roundworms your vet would need to do a fecal test.

Adult feline roundworms live in the small intestine of the cat (the host) where they absorb nutrients from what the cat is eating. Feline roundworm can weaken the cat’s system because they interfere with normal digestion and they can also damage the lining of the intestine.

Felines with a serious case of roundworms can loose a lot of weigh and appear very thin, while kittens with with these worms can get a pot-belly look. Other symptoms of a roundworm problem include a dull coat, diarrhea, constipation, anemia, and vomiting. As the larvae develop they pass through the respiratory system of the cat which can cause coughing, an additional possible symptom.

A serious case of these worms can block the intestines, although this isn’t very common. While a mild case of roundworms may not cause any noticeable symptoms.

Treatment of feline roundworms will include giving your cat a wormer to kill the roundworms. Most wormers will kill the adult roundworms but not the larvae, so the instructions on the wormer will usually tell you to repeat the worming process 2-4 weeks after the first round.

Feline Tapeworm Feline tapeworms are flat, segmented worms. They have a head, neck and a number of segments that look like grains of rice or cucumber seeds. The head has a mouth with “suckers” that allow the feline tapeworm to latch on to the cat’s intestine.

New segments are created in the neck region while the mature segments at the other end are shed. Every one of these segments has reproductive organs. The segments that are shed contain eggs. If your cat has tapeworm you might notice these rice looking segments in our cat’s litter box, around her anus or where she sleeps.

Tapeworms can be transported by fleas so if you have a flea infestation you may also have a tapeworm infestation. It’s best to treat for fleas first so the cat isn’t re-infested.

Cats can get tapeworm from rodents as well, so if she spends much time outside or if she likes to hunt you should have the vet check her for this regularly.

If you notice small tapeworm segments on your cat work with your veterinarian to find the right medication to effectively treat the infestation. Praziquantel is the most common treatment used, but the dosage can vary based on your cat’s weight.

Congratulations on getting a brand new puppy! Be prepared for a fun but frustrating time. Some moments you’ll be smiling at him thinking how cute he is, and the next moment, you’ll want to scream at him for destroying things in the house. So, start training him as soon as possible! Puppies learn from a very early age, so the more time you put in now, the more you’ll have later to smile!

Although it’s definitely important to begin training with your puppy while it’s still young, you must remember that you are also in training. Your puppy is in a completely new situation, learning how to navigate a strange home and get along with unfamiliar people. It won’t happen right away.

The first portion of the puppy training should concentrate on limits. What is the puppy allowed to do? Where can it go? These are the things that have to be answered, and the best way to do it is to watch him. See where he goes when indoors. If he ventures into a closet, be prepared to firmly say “NO”. The dog will soon recognize the tone in your voice, and associate it with his location in the house. This tells the puppy that the closet is off limits.

It is essential that you walk your dog outside often. Walking gives the dog the opportunity for exploration and training: having a leash on the dog limits his wandering while stimulating his senses, and the dog will learn that outside is the proper place to relieve itself. Giving your dog a small treat after doing an appropriate action will help enforce proper behavior.

It’s very difficult for a new pet owner to learn to deal with a dog who will not stop barking. Sometimes, it seems that a new dog barks incessantly, without noticing that you just want peace and quiet. A new pet-owner needs to learn that their pet’s barking is not meant simply to bother them. They need to pay attention to why the dog is barking, and understand the “dog’s barking trends.”

Try to be more attentive. What’s the cause of it? Is it something that’s really obvious which is causing him to bark or is it something more subtle? A lot of times a dog will bark when he sees someone they are not familiar with. Dogs, being a natural territorial animal, will bark at that person, as to say “get off my property”.

The real key to get your dog to stop barking is to simply be prepared. Know what’s the cause of it and act upon it before he starts barking. For instance, if the dog barks at the mailman, be prepared for it. You should have some idea of when your mailman delivers the mail everyday. Around that time, put a leash on your dog. When you start to see the mail car give a little tug on the leash, before he even gets a chance to bark. It’s a nice jolt to the system.

A better method is if you are outdoors, have a water pistol on hand. If you recongize what triggers your dogs barking, give him a squirt of water before he starts barking. Soon enough he will make the connection between the water and his barking. This won’t mean anything if you don’t give him a reward for not barking. There has to be positve and negative reinforcement.
