Mastiff dog insurance is not high on most American’s agenda despite tens of millions of dog owners , to date this peculiarity remains a bit of a mystery. We don’t hesitate to purchase health insurance for ourselves , omitting our pets when just about everything else in our lives is insured just doesn’t make sense.

Considered by many as an unnecessary expense this attitude quickly changes when these mastiff dog owners are presented with the bills for treatment. Just as with private medical insurance, vets costs have risen sharply since the early 1990’s. The result of this has meant that mastiff dog insurance premiums have also risen as well.

If rising costs to protect your mastiff are not enough to convince you, there are others to consider. The problem is that domestic animals are often more liable to be involved in an accident or become sick , usually when you least expect it something will happen to one of your dogs.

If you are in this unenviable position then a choice may have to be made , Really, you should never have to think about how much it is going to cost.

I had doubts about treating our dog some time ago when he was involved in an accident , all I could think about at the time was whether he was worth the cost, that’s awful, isn’t it? Especially when you know that even with the surgery and treatments, your dog could still die. There are no guarantees as complications are not uncommon.

The financial aspect of looking after a mastiff dog is something that must be considered carefully , when money problems occur, temporary or otherwise, this causes further worries. If you are experiencing money worries then raising additional finances can prove embarrassing.

If you are experiencing a cash flow situation, you probably won’t spend as much on your mastiff dog’s treatment as you would like. Arranging a mastiff dog insurance policy saves this type of predicament from happening in the future. The choice is yours, large vet bills or pet healthcare insurance policy for around 40 dollars (or Less) per month , cost of medical care is assured.

Various mastiff healthcare insurance options are available . Some companies offer a discount if you have more than one dog on the plan. All dog owners should think carefully about what healthcare provision they have made for their mastiff dog , perhaps the advice here will help you make the decision you have been agonizing over.

There is a myth about training Chihuahuas. Most people believe that Chihuahuas are one of the hardest breeds to train, but in reality, this only refers to housebreaking, due to the fact that Chihuahuas have an overwhelming need to mark their territory. However, when it comes to obeying commands or doing tricks, Chihuahuas are highly trainable, and quite intelligent.

Consistency and treats are the keys to successful training. Like most other animals, Chihuahuas respond to positive results. If they do something and get a positive result, such as praise and a treat, they are likely to repeat the action in an attempt to get the same positive result.

Its positive training that really works. Reward them when they get it right, but do not punish them when they get it wrong just resolve to keep on working at it until it comes right.

When you ask them to do something, and they do it, go overboard with your praise, and your treats, and they will probably do the same again next time. If they don’t just withold the treat until you get the desired action.

Determine whether you will use voice commands, hand signals, or clicks. A clicker can be purchased at most pet stores, and clickers are often used by people who will be entering their dogs in dog shows. If you are just training a pet Chihuahua, verbal commands are typically used.

Training sessions shouldnt last more than fifteen minutes, but you can have two or three training sessions per day. Be sure not to skip any days, and try to hold the sessions at the same time each day. Start and end each training session with a trick or command that the dog has mastered.

Start off your sessions learning some simple commands such as sit and stay, and then when they are mastered you can move on to more complex commands, but remember to do all of this just one step at a time.

Again, these are highly intelligent dogs, and the key to getting them to follow your commands is to be consistent, to praise them for a job well done, and to reward them with treats. Suitable treats for training sessions include peanut butter and cheese. These are truly lovely dogs, and anyone fortunate enough to own one will be introducing a dog into their family that is both loyal, affectionate and eager to please. Yes at first you may need to spend time training them in the way that you want them to behave, but it will be time wel

You will know the Shih Tzu dog by many names ? the Pekinese, The Lion Dog, The Chrysanthemum dog and so on.

This is why the training of this dog when done with positive reinforcement method, works like magic. At the same time you would find that this dog can be unimaginably stubborn if pushed into doing anything. If you ever want to get anything done from a Shih Tzu, never use anything else other than love and positive rewards.

The Shih Tzu loves to be the center of attraction and hate to share the limelight with anyone. They feel much neglected when children are indulged in their presence. Though they are basically very lovable and calm, they tend to show a tendency of jealousy and latent aggressiveness when attention is shifted from them to anyone else.

The Shih Tzu has a tiny build with a flat muzzle and great inquisitive eyes that seem to constantly ask you something. The head is surrounded by a profuse mane of hair and has little tufts growing around the nose as well. This often makes this dog look like the flower chrysanthemum ? for which it is also nicknamed the chrysanthemum dog. The ears are like two little pendants hanging both sides of the head and its coat is dense and medium in length. The tail of the Shih Tzu’s is completely turned on its back like a pompom giving it a sweet yet pompous look.

Watch out for separation anxiety signs in this dog if you leave it for too long alone. These dogs need your presence and love constantly. Other then this aspect, they are not pretentious about anything.

Shih Tzus are easy to train if you use the right techniques. These dogs can be very proud and stubborn, hence the training should be done only through positive reinforcement. As long as they get pampered and treated to tidbits in reward to their good behavior, the Shih Tzu’s will do anything you ask of them.

Since the Shih Tzu is very friendly and receptive, many people prefer to train their dogs themselves and find it is not difficult at all. Just be sure use a lot of patience and many treats.

Overall the Shih Tzu breed makes for extremely sweet pets that bring joy and happiness wherever they go. You need to keep one thing in mind when you bring home a Shih Tzu dog ? they need your love more than anything else ? and if you cannot give it to them by being there for them, it is better to choose another breed of dogs.

In 2006, the American Kennel Club announced that the Yorkshire Terrier was the second most popular purebred dog in America. They are poised to become the nation’s most popular dog - even over the ubiquitous Labrador Retriever. Where did the Yorkshire Terrier come from? What breeds went into making it? And why did it get to be so popular?

Like many breeds of dogs, the name does not reflect their point of origin. For example, German Shepherds were actually developed in France. And Australian Shepherds originated in America. The geographical difference isn’t nearly so big, but it is still significant. The main stock for today’s delicate, adorable and pampered Yorkshire Terrier came from the unforgiving landscape of Scotland.

Back in 1865 - the year of Huddersfield Ben’s birth - dogs were bred to exhibit useful qualities, not for their looks. There also was not much interest in keeping breeds pure. There are very few accurate records of dog breeding at this time. It is also thought that dog breeding was considered such a secret business that no records were kept for fear of the knowledge getting out to competitors. Yorkshire Terriers got their name because the breed was perfected in Yorkshire.

The Scottish dogs then inevitably wooed the blushing English roses of the local canine population. It is thought those breeds were the Black and Tan English Terrier (also now extinct), the Skye Terrier and the Waterside Terrier (which is - you guessed it - also extinct). According to the majority of Yorkshire Terrier information sources, the founding father of the breed, Huddersfield Ben, was born in Yorkshire in 1865. He became one of the most admired dogs of his day.

Back then, dogs went everywhere with their masters. A Yorkshire Terrier would go to work in the mines and come home with his master to the family. The family found the Yorkies to be great companions and excellent watchdogs. The coats became even softer and silkier. Eventually, the men went to work without the dogs and the dogs became pampered family members. The breed needed very little exercise, looked spectacular and was very trainable.

It is thought that the sire Huddersfield Ben weighed about thirty pounds. As the need for working dogs decreased, the demand for small dogs increased. The Yorkshire Terrier became increasingly smaller and smaller.

Just one hundred years after Huddersfield Ben’s birth, the breed standard listed the weight of a Yorkie to be “no more than seven pounds”. The current trend is to breed them even smaller. Who knows how small the Yorkshire Terrier will be by 2065?

Today’s Yorkshire Terrier is a far different dog than when the breed appeared in 1865. In over just one hundred years, the size has been greatly reduced from an average weight of thirty pounds to a mere seven pounds today. And the trend is to have the Yorkie (as the breed is affectionately called) get even smaller, with adults tipping the scales at a mere three pounds. But who knows? Perhaps in the future, there will be a demand for the Yorkshire Terrier to grow back into a thirty pound dog.

Despite being named after a Northern county in England, the direct ancestor stock of today’s Yorkshire Terrier came from Scotland. When Scottish weavers lost work because of the rise of factory made clothing, they had to move south and brought their dogs with them. These dogs were Scottish Terriers, Paisley Terriers, Clydesdale (or Clyde) Terriers, the latter two breeds are now extinct. The Scottish dogs bred with the local terrier breeds, thought to have been Skye Terriers, Maltese and the now extinct breeds of Black and Tan English and Waterside. The eventual result was Huddersfield Ben, considered the fore sire of the entire Yorkshire Terrier breed.

He became one of the most admired dogs of his day.

As time went on, the need for big working dogs decreased. People were living in smaller homes and needed smaller dogs they could physically control easily. The Yorkshire Terrier filled this niche admirably. They were a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Not only did they make great guard dogs, but were affectionate and did not need a lot of exercise. They were introduced to America in 1872.

Over the last century, Yorkshire Terriers have become ever smaller. The original Yorkies were about thirty pounds and came in several colors. Today’s show Yorkies are not to exceed seven pounds and must be steel blue and tan (and have those colors in specific proportions).

The hot trend is top breed Yorkies that tip the scales at three pounds, which has lead to concerns about the health of breeding such small dogs. The Yorkshire Terrier, as of 2006, is the second most popular purebred dog in America.

Have you ever wondered whether your Pomeranian could be a show dog? Well, here’s your chance. If you want to know what the American Kennel Club considers a good Pomeranian, read on. Get out the bathroom scale so you can find out how your dog measures up to the American Kennel Club standards for Pomeranian dogs. You could have a potential American Kennel Club champion on your hands.

If you want to see you your Pomeranian compares to the show dogs that win American Kennel Club championships, grab your dog and your bathroom scale. You’re about to find out whether you have a potential champion on your hands.

Another benefit of having standards for different breeds of dogs is to encourage good breeding practices. Dogs in the toy group are notoriously fragile, and restricting the weight of the Pomeranian to seven pounds maximum helps prevent the breed from getting too heavy and risking injury to bones and joints.

The American Kennel Club knows that it matters and that is the reason for the establishment specific standards for each of the breeds it recognizes. The American Kennel Club requires that certain characteristics of a breed be stable for many generations of dogs before it recognizes a breed. Thus, a puppy buyer can predict how big or small a grown dog will be and what kind of temperament it will have. According to the American Kennel Club, a Pomeranian puppy, for instance, will weigh no more than seven pounds and have a perky, energetic personality.

Proportion is integral to Pomeranian standards. The dog’s height from its elbows to its withers should be approximately the same as the height from the ground to the elbows. The length of the shoulder blade and the upper arm should be approximately equal. The Pomeranian is double-coated, with a soft undercoat and a fluffy, textured outer coat that settles in a frill around the Pomeranian’s shoulders and chest. A soft, flat or open coat is a major fault that leads to disqualification.

The standard of the breed permits the Pomeranian to be virtually every color, and all colors and variations must be judged equally. Common Pomeranian patterns include black and tan, brindle and parti-color. With black and tan, light patches appear above the eyes, on the muzzle, throat, chest, legs, feet, and under the tail. A brindle coat has a gold or red base with bold black stripes. A parti-color Pomeranian is white with patches of any other color, although a white blaze on the head is preferred.

In specialty shows, Pomeranian dogs are categorized into three different groups according to the color combinations of their coats. Red, orange and sable dogs are judged together while black and brown dogs are judged in a second group, and other variations are judged in a third group.

The American Kennel Club also sets standards for a Pomeranian’s temperament, so owners know what to expect from their dog’s personality. Pomeranians should be confident, inquisitive, intelligent and pleasant, with a commanding presence. Pomeranian breed information is available to anyone who wants to breed Pomeranians or just wants to know more about the breed.

A bloodhound and mastiff mix. Can you imagine? These beautiful mastiff dogs can sniff out something as well as being as gentle as possible. They are originally from Brazil and have the original name of Fila Brasileiro. When they were first around, they were made to watch out for the plantations, then they were later brought to the United States by a group called the Conquistadors.

This loving creatures weigh about 100 pounds or more and they stand about 27-30 inches off the ground. They have the hound dog look in the face with a large flabby neck. They have short hair that is very easy to manage. Their colors vary. You may want one that is reddish tan, how about black or maybe even yellow. Then there is the most popular and that happens to be brindle.

As most of their cousins in the Mastiff family, the Brazilian Mastiff is very loving in nature. They can be aggressive as well. They are gentle with children and very protective of them. Mastiffs are very obedient to their masters and very easy to train as well. The have great pride and courage.

Their natural hunting instincts come from the bloodhound side of the family. They are used in hunting. The word Fila means ‘to hold’, in Portuguese. What they do is sniff out the animal that is being hunted, catch it and hold it while waiting for their master to return.

They are far less likely to become overweight than most mastiffs (a common problem seen in the breed), and tend to be healthier and more athletic than your average mastiff. This is another set of traits inherited from their bloodhound relatives.

In fact, the Brazilian Mastiff is well known to not like strangers at all. It doesn’t matter if they are intruders or not. You have to be around them when they are puppies and as they grow if you plan on becoming someone they won’t attempt to attack or become aggressive towards. Extremely loyal to his family and will be as gentle as he could be around children.

They will attack without permission so it is wise to hide him if strangers plan on staying as guests. Even the best of the best Brazilian mastiffs, the show quality, can become aggressive towards the judges. That is a scary thought. Imagine being attacked as a show dog judge? I think that I would keep the working dog category out of my choice of judging. That is to say the least.

Remember to be careful as you choose your new Brazilian Mastiff puppy. You want to make sure that the breeder is a good and trustworthy one. Some breeders have other agendas when selling their puppies so it is wise to get references first hand.

There are many people in the world who love the toy Chihuahua not only for its diminutive size but also for their very sweet temperament. This dog is the smallest of all the dog breeds known to man and also the oldest. Its origins can be traced to a place in Mexico after which it is named. The Aztec bred this dog for their royalty in ancient times. However, at that time the Chihuahua was slightly larger than what it is today.

The name ? toy Chihuahua ? is indicative that this animal is small and sweet, just like a toy; Chihuahua is a name of a place in Mexico from where this lovely dog originates. You will find that this dog has a very cute apple-like face with two very large and upright ears. The toy Chihuahua has a soft spot on the top of it’s head, just as human babies do, which closes and becomes hard by the time the dog reaches adulthood. The toy Chihuahua comes in all colors possible ? the most common of all being tan, fawn, chestnut, sand and steel blue.

The advantages of owning this dog is that you have everything you would love in a dog with less exercise than most other breeds. They are great companions, highly entertaining pets and excellent guard dogs. They live long ? about fifteen to eighteen years ? and all this while they will fiercely and possessively love you.

The toy Chihuahua loves attention and thrives on it. They are very territorial and hate to share anything their ‘own’ including their owners. This is why these dogs and young children do not mix well. They can get very aggressive if anyone else hogs the limelight and in their excitement they can even bite.

There is another reason why you should keep children away from this breed. This dog looks very small and is often taken for a toy by young kids who in their wish to cuddle and pet it might squeeze a little too hard or sit or stamp on it, hurting or even killing it.

There are a few downsides for people who possess or want to possess a toy Chihuahua. First of all it is very fragile ? not in strength but in its vulnerability. He is the size of a cat and not even half as agile. It is very easy to find it crushed to death by mistake by stamping or sitting on it. For this reason, you cannot have a toy Chihuahua if you have young children in the house, as they would be likely to harm it.

Alternatively, the Chihuahua will be tempted to bite the children out of jealously because you are showering your attention and love to them.

Be aware that though the toy Chihuahua is usually a very friendly breed, there are a few of them that are quite aggressive and introvert. When you buy a puppy, you will need to interact with it very closely to monitor and guide its behavior. They can be very stubborn if it suits them and can be a great challenge to house train.

There are many things to consider once you begin to think about Shih Tzu breeding. One of the key things that many people who breed dogs of any breed fail to think about is their purpose for breeding dogs. Many puppy mills are created and ran in order to receive a profit and they care about nothing else.

When profit is the bottom line, the Shih Tzu care is often neglected. It is vital to make sure that you are in it for the right reasons, even though the dollar amount you can make is pretty flashy.

If you truly love getting involved with Shih Tzu care and want to help others receive healthy and loved puppies, then you may be on the right path. Sharing your passion and love with others is an excellent reason to get involved with Shih Tzu breeding. When starting out, in order to ease into things, you will want to start out with just one pair of adult Shih Tzu’s in order to be able to place all of your focus and attention on them.

There are a lot of key factors that you must be well versed in before beginning on your journey of Shih Tzu breeding. It is important that you fully understand the different illnesses and problems that can come about with the Shih Tzu breed at any given time. This is not only in regards to the adult’s dogs you are using for the breeding, but for the puppies that will be born to them.

If you aren’t able to do this it may be because you have just adopted these dogs in order to partake in Shih Tzu breeding. And while that is fine, you want to know that you are breeding dogs that are not only emotionally stable but healthy as well since the Shih Tzu breed is prone to many different illnesses and back problems.

A good idea would be to have your dogs checked out by a vet and talk about breeding them. Ask as many questions as possible and have a full examination done on the dogs to make sure that they are healthy enough to proceed. This is very important for the mother dog, as you do not want her to suffer or even end up passing away because she was not able to carry pups. Your vet will be able to give you the okay to proceed with that particular pair.

Once you have the okay to begin with Shih Tzu breeding, it is important to set your dogs in an environment that they can be safe in. Many people, except for puppy mills, keep their dogs inside their home to keep them safe from the weather or other threats of nature. Shih Tzu care is extremely important during the breeding process, as your vet will explain. It is vital to make sure that both adult dogs receive proper nutrition before, during, and after the breeding and pregnancy stages.

And one the most important things to do is to make sure your adult dogs are getting proper nutrition during the entire process, just like a human female would have to do during her pregnancy. Even though you are always cautious of the dogs diet, you want to be extra careful during this time, as it is vital to her recovery and the health of her pups. Talk with your vet about what special diets or even maybe vitamins that you would want your female to take.
