There is a common problem among puppies or adult dogs that are submissive and it is spontaneous peeing when excited or scared. We are learning that these problems are easy to fix by following a few of the steps below. Remember to always be consistent when training or working with a dog to rid them of their bad habits.

If your dog is experiencing this disorder that causes unnecessary peeing, then he might suffer from submissive/excitement issues. After a clean bill of health from the vet that there are no other medical problems that might cause this problem, then we can move on to the submissive/excitement peeing issue. Here are some things that you can try with your dog.

If you dog does not pee when you are in the dominant position like looking in its eyes or greeting it face to face, then it’s probably an excitement issue. However if your dog pee’s when it’s in trouble or when you are bending down to greet him in a dominant position, then of course it is submissive. Luckily, we can fix both of these problems.

First of all, never yell at your submissive dog because it leads to insecure behavior. Train your dog to roll over, shake or sit up and reward her with praise and a treat. Submissive dogs need more kit gloves, no yelling, get to their level when engaging and as always pet them by scratching under the chin; never on top of their head.

If there are accidents with the peeing, don’t respond, just clean it up. But remember to praise the dog when they pee in their appropriate spot. Rewards and positive affirmation are always the best medicine.

Puppies are typically known for excitement peeing, especially during the first year. But older dogs are known for this as well. Excited to have visitors or the excitement of your arrival from work can trigger peeing. Just remember that there is no need to respond to the accident, just clean it up and praise the puppy when they are successful.

Puppies are known for peeing while playing. They just can’t contain themselves with all the excitement. Because of this we recommend that you do all your playing outside to eliminate any accidents on your expensive rug.

High energy greetings upon arrival home can also set off the excitement peeing. If you arrive home and the dog is excited and jumping around, we suggest you ignore him until he calms down. Keeping the excitement to a minimum can help correct the peeing problem.

Most dogs greet you at the door with an overwhelming excitement. Do not encourage this behavior, instead ignore the dog and only greet him when he is calm. Therefore you are sending him positive affirmation that calm is better than excited, eliminating the excitement peeing.

Keeping chickens is becoming very popular, and it is not just done on farms any longer. There is a boom in raising chickens in the suburbs and in cities. Small chicken coops allow for non-farmers to furnish healthy, yummy eggs for their family while as well creating a feeling of self-sufficiency and a association with our agricultural roots.

Eggs produced by hens brought up on pasture are nutritionally superior to eggs presently sold in supermarkets. They have less cholesterol, less saturated fat, more vitamin A and E, more omega-3 fatty acids, and more beta-carotene. Organic eggs produced in your backyard are a lot tastier, too.

Chickens are in reality a lot like any other pets - they bond with their owners, they get along well with children, and just like any pet, they are full of surprises. It is now possible to have your very own healthy, happy flock of hens, not to mention a non-stop supply of flavorsome eggs, in your own backyard. All that is needed is a well-designed chicken coop and some land where the hens can move around.

To have a flourishing and happy flock of hens, they first need satisfactory floor space. 6 square ft of floor space per chicken is perfect. In addition, the chicken coop has to be dry and well-ventilated, with plenty of oxygen. The right ventilation as well permits excess moisture, ammonia, and carbon dioxide to escape. If the chickens are dry, then they will stay warm and safe, even in cold weather, and the happier and healthier the hens are, the more eggs they will produce.

A added advantage of raising hens is that they produce high quality manure from their droppings that is rich in nitrogen. This manure is a natural fertilizer and can be recycled into the chicken owners garden or even sold. The average chicken produces 250 to 300 eggs per year, so unneeded eggs can also be sold to bolster your family income.

There are numerous advantages to having a small chicken coop. As well as the fabulous eggs and valuable manure, a small chicken coop is portable. In addition, raising chickens is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn lessons about responsibility, hard work, and the value of money. With all these benefits, it is not surprising that raising chickens has become such a popular interest.

As many of us probably already know from experience, there is a common bone and arthritic condition that larger and giant dogs are prone to. This condition can present itself early in a pup’s life, especially between the ages of 4 to 10 months. This abnormal growth of bone, cells or tissue can be managed but it requires a vet’s intervention.

The Dysplasia abnormality can lead to your dog becoming lame if not treated. There is a type of condition similar to this that affects males more than females. Typically this condition is found in the larger breeds like Labs, Rottiweilers, Chows and other giant breeds.

The specific type that affects more males than females is when you find a bone fragment in the inner surface of the upper ulna. The ulna bone is just below the elbow joint in the foreleg. This would be the only situation where there would be a gender difference for this condition.

Not all large dogs will show symptoms when they are young even if they are affected. If your dog shows signs of forelimb lameness that can also be irritated by exercise, which then turns to stiffness, this could be a sign of elbow Dysplasia. Also, when the dog extends or flexes his elbow or the dog will hold the affected limb away from his body.

The cause of this condition is not only genetic but can be caused by nutritional or developmental issues. It is important for you to get your pup to the vet for a medical examination. The vet will be able to make a diagnosis after a series of tests to eliminate other causes for the symptoms.

Initially your vet will want to take a variety of tests to determine if your dog is actually suffering from Dysplasia. The symptoms that are associated with Dysplasia can also indicate a variety of other ailments; therefore x-rays and other tests will be completed prior to making a diagnosis. There is a good chance that surgery will be needed if the diagnosis is Dysplasia.

After surgery, keep the dog’s limb iced down throughout the recover process to avoid excessive swelling. Control your dogs weight, keep him from being very active in the beginning but remember to encourage some mobility. Also, the possibility of medications might be involved in your dog’s recovery.

If you monitor your dogs diet you can help prevent the onset of Dysplasia. Keeping them from rapidly growing by managing their diet can help. If you have a dog that has been diagnosed with Dysplasia, it’s best that you do not breed them.

Large dogs are prone to this condition so it’s not anything to be overly worried about. However, if you purchased your dog from a breeder, better to let them know about the condition. Dogs with Dysplasia can live long happy lives; just remember to keep up with their yearly checkups.

Many new dog owners are totally unaware of the needs of their pet. They feel like they need to feed them, let them out in the yard and give them a little love and that’s all. Well, there is a lot more to it then that.

We humans forget that we can not treat our dogs like people, and most of the time this is what is causing our problems with our dogs. We get a new puppy; they are so cute so we let them sleep with us like a baby. This creates the first of many problems.

As we try and put the cute puppy that’s growing and taking over the bed out of the bed and room, we are now faced with whining and scratching the door. Now another problem is created and no one in the house is sleeping. Well except your husband and kids because we know they can sleep through anything.

Sometimes these dogs that bark continuously when they are not with you are suffering from separation anxiety. One easy solution is to put the dog’s bed in the room with you or a family member. Moving the dog’s bed or crate into a room where he is sleeping with a family member should fix the problem.

As we mentioned above, crating a dog is a solution for sleeping problems. Dogs do feel safe when crated and you will be surprised how fast this works. Some owners feel bad for the dog, but don’t.

If you have a dog that you just can’t cure of the separation anxiety issues, some vets suggest getting the dog a friend. Getting another dog can give the anxious dog a companion and tends to help relieve the separation issues. They will play during the day while you are at work and tire themselves out.

Exercise is a key part of a dog’s day and should not be avoided even if they have a yard to run in. Walking the dogs for about 30 minutes and give them some socialization which they enjoy, just as we do. Hyper dogs really do need to be worn out and playing with them in the park is a good way to do this.

During the day while you are at work, your dog is usually home sleeping. Then when you return home for the evening, the dog is wired for sound. Keeping your dog active is the key to a peaceful nights sleep.

Younger more active dogs are in definite need of exercising. As dogs get older, they will slow down but you still need to take them out for walks and socialization. Being a responsible pet owner will provide your dog with a happy and healthy life and afford you a good night’s sleep!

As pet owners, our primary responsibility to make sure we are doing our part to keep our pets healthy. Sometimes that is not such an easy task. Diet is a main source of their health but with so many different types of food available, how do we know what’s best for our pet?

With our pets now being part of our family, we are more concerned about getting their needs met. With diet being a major factor in that, we will share some good facts to know. Of course, some dogs might require special diets so check with your vet for their opinion.

Something that we don’t think about is that dog food for dogs have certain requirements. Being the carnivores that they are, we forget that they also need vegetables and grasses as part of their diet. Get familiar with what your dog’s dietary needs are to make sure that they are being fed a healthy diet.

Back in the days before us humans got involved with prepackaged dog food, a dog’s diet left up to their own devices would consist of something a lot different. They would be eating their own catch of prey, uncooked of course with a little grass and some seasonal fruits and berries. Today we scream and holler if they even remotely look like they are heading out for the kill.

Within society today, it is intolerable for dogs to hunt for their fresh prey to eat. We have domesticated them to a point where they are dependent on their owners for their food. We certainly do not see our sweet little dogs as the hunter’s they were originally born to be.

Another thing to consider when choosing a dogs diet is the breed of your dog. In addition to breed, the function of the dog in regards to working can influence the nourishment your dog needs. Lap dogs have a different dietary need than a working farm dog or a dog breed that is from the North Pole.

There are commercial brand foods that are good for dog but be sure you buy the premium top brands. These brands are tested on dogs and they are monitored throughout various stages of their lifetime. The important thing is that they are manufactured with the right dietary needs for dogs.

Some of the downsides to commercial processed foods are that they do contain preservatives that will break down some of the nutritional value of the food. Additives are usually added to meet certain nutritional requirements as well. If you are uncertain about the food, your vet will usually carry good premium brands so check with them.

Just remember that you must supplement your dogs diet with meats and vegetables if you are only feeding them dry food. Whatever you decide to do about your dogs diet, make sure that you couple that with exercise and lots of love. Dogs are truly man’s best friend and they deserve to live happy healthy lives as well.

Aquariums give people the prefect opportunity to decorate their homes with aquatic organisms. There are various types of aquariums depending on their shapes and sizes. The type of aquarium also depends on the material used in making it, for instance aquariums are available in a choice of either acrylic or glass. With the various aquariums available, deciding on the perfect type can be a difficult task. Below are some factors that one needs to consider when buying aquariums.

Location of the Aquarium

The first thing that should be considered before purchasing an aquarium is the location where this aquarium is to be placed. Consider the aquarium’s weight after it is full of water. Without any doubt the aquarium will be very heavy once it is filled with water. Therefore, make sure to place the aquarium in a table or stand that is strong enough to hold it. The aquarium should not be placed in a spot, which is directly exposed to the sunlight. In addition, the dcor of the room is also considered. Determine whether the existing dcor will complement the presence of the aquarium.

The Size of the Aquarium

Once the perfect site for the aquarium has been found, choosing the proper aquarium size is the next very important step. The size of the aquarium depends on how many fish the individual wants to keep. To determine the aquarium’s size, the area where the aquarium will be put must be measured. It is easier to maintain a large fish aquarium than a small one. Larger aquariums also make it easy for an individual to maintain correct water levels than with small aquariums. Furthermore, with large aquariums, it is less possible for the fish to overcrowd. Finally, the size of the aquarium to be bought also depends on the amount of money available.

Shape of the Aquarium

Aquarium tanks come in several shapes but the most common shapes that are available are tanks that are rectangular in shape. However, it is also possible to find other fish tank shapes such as round, cylindrical and hexagon. When one puts the shape of the aquarium into consideration, then tanks that have larger surface areas should be purchased. This is because the surface is very important especially since oxygen enters into the tank through it. It is also advisable to choose long tanks but not tall ones. This is due to the fact that long tanks enable the fish to have easy movements in the aquarium.

Acrylic or Glass

When choosing an aquarium it is also important to consider the material it is made from. Most aquariums are made from acrylic and glass. Glass aquariums tend to be heavier than acrylic tanks. However, acrylic tanks are very advantageous as they offer an ability to view the fish without distortions unlike glass tanks. On the other hand, glass tanks are also good since the tanks are resistant to scratch, a factor which makes them easy to clean.

The most common types of pet hamsters are Dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters. Both of these breeds of hamsters wants different types of care and different types of hamster cage, so the best hamster cages may be different depending on the breed and the number of hamsters to be housed.

Dwarf hamsters may be kept in the same cage as other Dwarves, but it is all-important to know the gender of Dwarves if they are going to be living in the same cage, because you may very rapidly end up with more than he or she can manage. However, experts say that even Dwarf hamsters are not guaranteed to get along forever, so having an extra cage just in case is vital. Dwarf hamsters like to climb and crawl through tubes. Some manufacturers as well sell additional tubes that can be connected to the existing tubes, this makes the cage far larger. The best hamster cages will also have an exercise wheel and a water bottle.

Wire hamster cages are great for the pet owner, since cleaning is as easy as clicking off the wire, but hamsters also like chewing and they will chew on wire bars if they have been in a hamster cage for an extended period of time. It is important to provide a hamster things to chew on for entertainment.

Syrian hamsters are quite different from their Dwarf counterparts. They always favour to be caged on their own, even if they are from the same litter or were caged together in a pet store. The desire to be solitary only grow as a Syrian hamster gets older. They will fight and seriously injure each other if they are not separated.

Unlike Dwarves, Syrian hamsters like ground space as opposed to numerous tubes, but they still like to have a wheel to play with. Syrian hamsters also love having various levels in their cage, which may be connected with ramps or a ladder.

The best hamster cages are those that provide your lovable pets lots of room to roam, play, sleep, exercise and just sit and observe the world about them. They require room for their food and water, their exercise wheel, and their playthings. When these conditions are met, any pet hamster will live a long, happy, healthy life.

Many pet owners are turning to holistic health care as an alternative to help their well-loved pets live healthy, long and happy lives.

Your dog’s nutritional needs may be the most important aspect when it comes to a dog health diagnosis, as nutrition is the basis for health. Dogs neede a certain balance of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to ensure everything from the digestive systems to the bones, joints, and organs as well as the skin and coat are as healthy as possible. Dogs’ nutritional needs differ to our own. A diet of meat, vegetables, and whole grains without any processed foods or unnecessary fillers is usually recommended when thinking about holistic dog health.

Once you have a dog health diagnosis, you can go the conventional treatment way, or use a combination of various essential oils, flowering essences, plant extracts, and certain herbs. You can consult with a holistic veterinarian, or you could do your own research on holistic dog health care and run your ideas past your vet before embarking upon a holistic treatment regime. These ancient healing practices have in recent years found their way into pet care and are now becoming increasingly popular as more and more dog owners are looking for safer, healthier, and less invasive alternatives to treating their pets.

Calendula and chamomile may be recommended for promoting the healing of wounds, with the latter often being used for the treatment of respiratory ailments also. If your dog is suffering from constipation or a bowel disorder, crushed flaxseed mixed with plenty of water may be helpful. Dry, itchy skin, can be soothed with oats, and if your dog is having trouble sleeping, you may well find that lavender essential oil may help your to relax fall asleep just as well as it will work for yourself if you suffer from insomnia.

Ask your veterinarian for his or her input and recommendations when it comes to holistic dog health and using all-natural remedies for their care, but if your vet is not open to alternative health methods, do your own research, and you might even want to consider switching to a vet who is more open to alternative methods.

In recent years, thousands of veternarians have made holistic dog health diagnosis a greater part of their practice. A vet practicing holistic pet medicine cares for the whole animal instead of just finding a specific problem and prescribing a single therapy for that particular trauma or disorder.

For example, your dog has suddenly come down with a red, irritating rash and has started losing some fur. A “regular” vet would most likely prescribe a topical ointment and an antibiotic medication to stop the infection and itching.

While a “regular” vet would probably prescribe an antibiotic to treat most skin irritations and infections, as well as a topical ointment to address the itching, a holistic veterinarian will probably place more emphasis on finding out what could have caused the rash to occur in the first place, which, of course, was the root of the infection. With holistic care, the dog’s indoor and outdoor environment, his daily lifestyle, eating habits and nutritional intake are all taken into consideration before attempting to diagnose or treat the animal.

Many pet owners are turning to holistic health care as an alternative to help their well-loved pets live healthy, long and happy lives.

Perhaps the most important aspect for a dog’s health would be a unique blend of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to make sure the joints, organs, and digestive systems make work in harmony as well with the skin and coat being healthy. A great diet for your pet dog should remain a holistic approach as meals should consist of meat, vegetables, and whole grains. The important thing is to avoid processed foods.

Herbal Remedies are Very Good for Your Dog’s Health

Using a combination of various essential oils, flowering essences, plant extracts, and certain herbs, people have been treating a host of ailments and health conditions for the last few thousand years. As of recently, these ancient healing practices have found their way into pet care and are now becoming increasingly popular as more and more dog owners are looking for safer, healthier, and less invasive alternatives to treating their pets.

Some of the plant life that’s used for treating dogs include both calendula and chamomile for promoting the healing of wounds, and the latter is often used for the treatment of respiratory ailments as well. For dogs suffering from constipation or bowel disorders, crushed flaxseed mixed with plenty of water may do the trick. For dry, itchy skin, oats are as soothing to a dog’s skin as they are to a human’s, and if your pup is having trouble sleeping, smelling some lavender may help them to relax and finally fall soundly asleep.

Before concocting any type of herbal remedies of your own, make it a point to do plenty of research and be absolutely certain that what you’re giving your dog isn’t toxic or harmful in any way, as not all herbs and flowers are safe for pets, or even people for that matter. It is always wise to consult with your veterinarian about the proper care and possible remedies for holistic dog health.

Holistic Medicine for Animals

In recent years, thousands of veternarians have made holistic dog health a greater part of their practice. A vet practicing holistic pet medicine cares for the whole animal instead of just finding a specific problem and prescribing a single therapy for that particular trauma or disorder.

For instance, if your dog has suddenly come down with some sort of rash on his skin causing irritation, redness, itching, a possible infection, and some fur loss, a “regular” vet would probably prescribe an antibiotic to treat the skin infection and then perhaps a topical ointment to address the itching.

A holistic veterinarian will be more concerned about the source of the rash and why it happened even though they may still prescribe the two remedies. Keeping holistic care in mind, the dog’s indoor and outdoor environment, its daily lifestyle, eating habits and nutritional intake are all to be considered before diagnosing or treating the animal.

With pet food recalls, vaccination and immunization questions, and overmedication fears on the rise, effective ways to keep our furry friends in the best health is a top priority.
